Two years ago I tried different configurations (with TB desktop, ProtonMail in split mode for instance) but I came to the conclusion that TB Portbale and ProtonMail Bridge combined mode was the best I could get. I suspect that this is because TB being Portable. I oftentimes get issues within TB: duplicate emails, tags on emails disappearing, colors of the folders reset and wrong messages displayed as search results (potentially correct title but different email body and sender).
